BURRROW — the New Underground Music Rabbit Hole
Season 01 · Brackets open

Make breaking into music a meritocracy again.

Where real music fans find what is next and vote for what is good. BURRROW is a national independent-music competition built around seven genre brackets. Independent artists enter their home genre for a flat $1 per song. Round 1 is open submissions — every entry is in the running. Round 2 narrows the field to 64, Round 3 narrows it to 32, and each round after that halves the field — 16, 8, 4, 2 — until one Genre Champion is crowned per genre. Verified fans vote in every round, free. Seven Genre Champions. One National Grand Champion per season.

Seven genre brackets

Pick the genre you actually make music in.

Every genre runs its own independent bracket. Identity is local — enter the style you live and play in, and let fans in that room advance the field.

  • Bracket open

    Hip Hop

    Boom-bap · Trap · Lo-fi · Conscious

From classic boom-bap and conscious lyricism to today's trap, plug, and lo-fi scenes — the bracket where voice, flow, and beat hit hardest.

  • Bracket open

    Rock

    Indie · Punk · Garage · Shoegaze

Garage rock, post-punk, EMG, alt-country-rock, and the indie rooms where the next great American riff is forming.

  • Bracket open

    Country

    Outlaw · Americana · Folk · Country-Rock

Outlaw country, Americana, folk, and the songwriting rooms outside Nashville where the heart of the genre keeps rewriting itself.

  • Bracket open

    EDM

House · Techno · Bass · Future Beats

House, techno, drum & bass, dub, and the experimental future-beat scenes driving the country's dance floors and warehouse nights.

  • Bracket open

    Pop

Mainstream · Indie Pop · Synth · Bedroom Pop

Mainstream pop, indie pop, synth-pop, bedroom pop, and the hook-first songwriting rooms shaping what the charts sound like next.

  • Bracket open

    R&B

    Soul · Neo-Soul · Funk · Contemporary R&B

Soul, neo-soul, funk, and contemporary R&B — the vocalist-first bracket where the song, the arrangement, and the room breathe together.

  • Bracket open

    Other

    Jazz · Soul · World · Experimental

Anything that doesn't fit cleanly into Hip Hop, Rock, Country, EDM, Pop, or R&B — jazz, world, classical fusion, experimental, ambient.

How voting stays honest

Votes and dollars are kept in separate rooms.

Fans carry the bracket. Sponsors carry the prize. The two never route through the same ledger, and the bracket math never sees a sponsored dollar.

Verified voting

1 verified account = 3 votes per genre per round.

Fans sign up free and verify their email. Each verified account gets 3 votes per genre per round, spread across different artists, never stacked on one — and the bracket resets between rounds, so a fan is always choosing the next song out, never doubling down on the same act.

  • Email verified at sign-up
  • Bracket reset between rounds
  • IP + identity rate-limit controls
  • No paid vote boosts, ever
Sponsor pool

Sponsors sit fully separate from the tally.

Sponsors contribute cash, gear, studio time, music videos, concert tickets, and merch to the season's prize pool. None of those dollars ever touch the bracket — paid promotion cannot tilt which song advances.
